M.S.E. recently released their uplifting single "CHANCE!" and we got to sit down and talk to them about it!
What was the inspiration behind “CHANCE!”? Was there a certain influence when it came to this track?
This song is pure celebration of hope and determination. While the world was crumbling around us all, we reached deep inside to feel the encouraging words to share with listeners. We truly want to help others remove fear and doubt from decisions so they can follow and live their dreams.
Yes there was I'm a big Boom Boom Satellites fan and I always wanted to see how we could mix that into are DUB-FUNK thing. I feel we were able to blend both very well.
What was the creative process like for the lyrics for this particular song? Mz Sadie:
Kevyn did a great job with the lyrics and concept. First we drafted the Chorus parts since we knew we wanted a cheer sound, that Sportsmanlike conduct that gets a crowd going. Then we built the verses around that. The rest was easy.
Well with everything that is going on we felt that it was in the best interests to help people feel good about looking forward to change. It's important to take a chance in life because you are only here for a short period of time so do the things you dream of doing that's what helped in writing the lyrics.
When you get together to write a song, does it always flow naturally right away, or do you bounce ideas off of each other?
When we work on a song together, it always takes a few times for the feel and flow to sink in. I believe we both play it various times to make sure we love the sound and each time, it's easy to adjust and we always come out with awesome results.
We bounce ideals off each other. I'm mostly alone when putting the music together but I get feedback from MzSadie over the tunes. Talking back and forward about direction is all part of the process of creating are sound.
This song sounds a little different from past productions. Was that intentional?
This year we've had a lot more time on our hands due to Covid and the health of our country. During this time, it allowed the creativity to flow a little more deeply. Sometimes when you have the ability to simply create, you can reach the potential you first believed you had. We are happy that our sound has evolved on this Manic Sound Expulsion Album.
This song has a new sound in are DUB-FUNK adventure, having mixer and mastering engineer Bboywicket bring a raw but big in your face sound has been a beautiful thang! It's a sound you will hear throughout the new record 3 New Songs 3 New Keys Of Noise coming out this year.
We love the mixture of Mz Sadie’s vocals and KingZiLLa’s vocals! Is there a certain way you like to record each in “CHANCE!”?
The song title, being cheered by MzSadie and guest Ari of Arisha was C-H-A-N-C-E. This had such an energizing energy and reminding everyone of taking a chance and being active. Kevyn sang the chorus as well and of course, did some incredible things with his voice. This song also had a cool sound like our first single from Album 1: Push Up.
Different techniques of processing the vocals is used on MzSadie to myself when recording but again big thx to Bboywicket in bringing new ideals in the mix!
